Calcium carbonate is a compound with the chemical formula CaCO3. It is the main ingredient in marine life shells, snails, pearls, and eggshells and is easily found throughout the world. Calcium carbonate is the active ingredient in agricultural lime and is often the main cause of hard water. It is produced by crushing, grinding, and classifying white limestone and high purity calcite. Calcium carbonate also has other names, such as limestone, calcium carbide, chalk, and calcite.
The largest application of Calcium Carbonate is industrial use. Two types of calcium carbonate are precipitated and ground Calcium Carbonate. Pure Calcium Carbonate can be produced from marble, or it can be prepared by passing carbon dioxide into a Calcium Hydroxide solution. In the subsequent process, Calcium is extracted from the mixture to form a product grade called “precipitated Calcium Carbonate” or PCC. PCC has a very fine and controllable 2-micron particle size, especially for papermaking. Another important type of industrial product is ground Calcium Carbonate or GCC. Limestone is crushed and processed into powder, classified according to particle size and other characteristics, suitable for many different industrial and pharmaceutical applications. We use ground Calcium Carbonate powder to make CaCO3 filler masterbatch for different applications of plastic packaging products.
